Test Taking
During your academic career, you will have to take tests. A test shows your understanding of the subject and your ability to perform certain actions. You do not need to be careless about taking a test. In some classes, you may not get but a few grades, and a bad one will pull your overall grade down.
It helps to be prepared for your test. It is a good idea to try to get to know the professor’s testing style. Look at your previous tests, and if possible, obtain tests from previous classes. Be sure to be on time or early for a test and come prepared. Bring pen, pencil and paper. Dress comfortably, but not inappropriately.
When taking a test, read the directions. Go over the test and do what you can do quickly and easily. Then go back and tackle the harder questions. With essay or short answer tests, it may help to make a sweeping outline of your answer to keep you on track.
Once you have completed the test, go back over it. Check to be certain that you have answered all the questions. Check over the answer sheet also to be certain that you put the correct answer with the correct number. Be sure to check your spelling, punctuation and grammar, especially in the short answer and essay parts. Change the answers if you misread the questions, or if you know that you answered the question incorrectly. Don’t try to read too much into a question. Be objective.
