CEOE Test

The state of Oklahoma has a rigorous process of licensing primary and secondary educators. One of the requirements for professional teachers working in public schools in the state is an exam. The Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators (CEOE) are a set of exams that test a teacher's general knowledge and specific content knowledge from his or her specialty.

There are several tests that educators must pass as they progress through their careers. There is a general knowledge test called the Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET). It covers a range of subjects from arithmetic and algebra to social science and reading comprehension. There is an exam covering an educator's professional responsibilities called the Oklahoma Professional Teaching Examination (OPTE). This test probes a candidate's knowledge of learning styles, educational assessment, and professional ethics. There are also subject matter exams, fittingly called Oklahoma Subject Area Tests (OSAT), ranging from elementary education to Russian language to an exam for superintendents.

The state has a range of requirements for its educators. Classroom assistants, like paraprofessionals, must pass the OGET. Elementary educators must pass the OGET and an OSAT. Secondary school teachers and administrators must pass the OGET, OPTE, and an OSAT. Additional OSATs can allow a teacher or administrator to move laterally or vertically through the system. All tests are available through a computer-based testing system, although the state does offer paper-based tests for those more comfortable in the older system. Tests are different lengths, but all have some combination of multiple-choice questions and written essays.

All of the examinations are scored on a scale of 100 to 300, with 240 being a minimum passing score on each test. There is no limit to the number of times any individual can take the exams until he or she achieves a passing score. There is a fee for each test, however. Practice tests are a good way to increase your chances on each iteration of the exam.
